Las horas ciegas de César Manrique and José Gopar, el artista vencido – double bill with Concha de Ganzoverified
A double bill at the Cine Buñuel in El Almacén, Arrecife, with two 2026 documentaries directed by Concha de Ganzo: Las horas ciegas de César Manrique and José Gopar, el artista vencido. The director introduces both films and talks with the audience after the screenings. Suitable for all ages; tickets cost 3 €. Organised by the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa.
César Manrique and José Gopar were two artists from Lanzarote. Manrique triumphed with his project of transforming his island; Gopar went as far as exhibiting in New York, but his story broke apart and his painting was lost. Las horas ciegas de César Manrique (24 minutes) follows a fragile Manrique, suffering a detached retina, through the six hours he spends in New York before flying to Spain, accompanied by his nephew Eduardo, as he recalls the city he lived in during the sixties. José Gopar, el artista vencido (25 minutes) traces the life of this son of a poor fishing family from Arrecife, who worked hard to become a recognised artist and ended up dying alone and forgotten.
Both documentaries date from 2026, are directed by Concha de Ganzo and are suitable for all ages. The director introduces the two films and talks with the audience once the screenings are over. Tickets cost 3 € and are sold online; the event is organised by the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa. The session takes place at the Cine Buñuel in the CIC El Almacén, Arrecife, on Thursday 5 November 2026 at 20:00.
