On Saturday 26 September Villa de Mazo hosts the first edition of La Burrada, the island's first gathering of donkeys and mules. The walk sets off at 9:00 from the Cruz del Calvario and covers 5.3 kilometres, passing the municipal market and several stretches of the GR-130 Camino Real before reaching the picnic area of Montaña de la Breña, where the day ends with a shared meal.
The gathering sets out to give value to the old paths and to the work done with donkeys and mules, which for centuries carried the loads up and down these slopes. Anyone wanting to take part with their own animals has to register by telephone with the Villa de Mazo town hall; watching the start and the route needs no registration. The Cruz del Calvario is not mapped, so the coordinate marks the centre of Mazo, where the walk begins.
