Opening of the exhibition “Lanzarote” by Jesús Madriñán at El Almacénverified
Opening at El Almacén of “Lanzarote”, the series Jesús Madriñán made in 2024 during the Hotel Nautilus Lanzarote artist residency. His monumental portraits, shot on a large-format analogue camera, put migrants and tourists on the same plane, alongside still lifes made from local materials or waste generated by tourism. Free admission, for all ages. Thursday 8 October, 19:00; the exhibition runs until 16 January.
In 2024, as part of the Hotel Nautilus Lanzarote artist residency programme, Jesús Madriñán (Santiago de Compostela, 1984) created the series “Lanzarote” to explore the contemporary identity of island life. The project centres on two groups from elsewhere, migrants and tourists, who shape everyday life on the island yet rarely mix, except in shared spaces such as the interurban buses. His monumental photographic portraits, taken with a large-format analogue camera, place them on the same plane and sit alongside still lifes made from local materials, from waste generated by tourism or from things found by chance. Who is a tourist and who is a migrant? The show invites viewers to look beyond appearances: nobody is born a tourist or a migrant.
The exhibition is on at El Almacén, on Calle José Betancort in Arrecife, from 8 October to 16 January, open to all ages with free admission. It is organised by the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, in collaboration with Hotel Nautilus Lanzarote. The opening is on Thursday 8 October 2026, at 19:00.
