La Bombilla's Great Crab Festivalverified
The crab comes out of the sea to its own official song and parades through the neighbourhood to the stage, where the verbena carries on. Earlier the same day there is a fishing open and a chalano boat race.
La Bombilla is a fishing district on the west coast of La Palma, and its main fiesta says everything: the protagonist is a crab. At 19:00 it makes its long-awaited exit from the sea to its own official song, and from there sets off on a festive route to the fiesta stage, where the celebration continues with a big verbena from Leonardo Lires, Los Tres de Caña and Dj Peti.
The day starts much earlier. At 07:30 there is the La Bombilla fishing open, at 09:30 a zumba masterclass and at 11:30 the chalano race, the traditional rowing boats of the La Palma coast. At 21:30 the hat and sunhat contest rewards the most original design.
It is the kind of fiesta that is not put on for visitors but for the neighbourhood itself, and that is exactly why it is worth seeing.
