Fiestas in honour of the island's patron saint, the Virgen de La Peña, at Vega de Río Palmas, in Betancuria. The programme begins on 17 September at 20:30 and continues until the 20th at 20:00. Since remote times the people of Fuerteventura have come to this place once a year to venerate the patron saint, in a pilgrimage that is still kept up today. Access is free of charge.
Since remote times the people of Fuerteventura have travelled once a year to Vega de Río Palmas, in Betancuria, to venerate the island's patron saint, the Virgen de La Peña. The pilgrimage was formerly made on foot, by donkey or by camel, and it is kept up today along the island network of prepared and waymarked trails.
The pilgrimage takes place on the third Friday of September. The most accessible and most used trails set out from Betancuria, Tiscamanita, Valles de Ortega, Antigua and Pájara. The fiestas begin on 17 September at 20:30 and run until the 20th at 20:00, with free access.
