Las Portelas Festivities 2026 in honour of Our Lady of Carmen and Saint Dominic de Guzmánverified
Ten days of festivities in the Las Portelas neighbourhood: opening speech and parade, the Libreas de El Palmar dance, procession with fireworks, folk festival, communal meal and the traditional potato-sowing day.
The Las Portelas neighbourhood of Buenavista del Norte celebrates its festivities in honour of Our Lady of Carmen and Saint Dominic de Guzmán from 21 to 30 August 2026. The programme combines religious ceremonies with open-air dances, folk music, sport and the farming traditions of northern Tenerife.
Friday 21. 20:00, the festivities open with the pregón by Mr Airam Cairós López, grandson of Mr Filiberto and Mrs Clemencia, paying posthumous tribute to them both. This is followed by the Grand Announcing Parade along the usual route accompanied by The Vid Band, and an open-air dance with the group Son Sin Límite.
Saturday 22. 11:00, a children's morning with bouncy castles, workshops and face painting, with refreshments for those attending. 20:00, the traditional dance of the Libreas de El Palmar. 22:00, mass celebrated by parish priest Mr Roberto Darias and accompanied by the Baracán folk group; then a procession along the customary route with the Garachico Bugle and Drum Band and a fireworks display by the Hermanos Toste of Los Realejos. In the Plaza de La Montañeta, a musical offering by Mrs Magaly Díaz Ávila, and on the return to the hermitage, a performance by Nataly. 23:30, grand dance with the Los Teymar orchestra and DJ Dani de León during the break.
Sunday 23. 16:30, solemn mass accompanied by the Choir of San Andrés and Santa Mónica of Los Realejos, followed by a procession with the Ntra. Sra. de Los Remedios Band of Buenavista del Norte; Nataly sings as the procession reaches the square. 19:00, comedy with the Canarian comedian Cristito and his show «La madre canaria», followed by the group Contraste and the La Laguna singer Besay Pérez. Hosted by Mr Samuel López Rodríguez.
Monday 24. Envite and dominoes tournaments organised by the incoming committee.
Tuesday 25. 16:00, offertory mass with the Casa de Mayores of Buenavista del Norte; the offerings are donated to the Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Afterwards, an afternoon snack for the elderly and a folk festival with Cardón de Oro, Tajaraste de Teno Alto and Mazapé.
Wednesday 26. 17:00, children's festival followed by an afternoon of traditional family games.
Thursday 27. 19:00, performance by A.F. Tasaigo. 20:00, a large communal meal in the square for everyone, prepared by Comidas la Unión, and a dance with Manuel Dorta.
Friday 28. 17:30, eucharist for the deceased of the neighbourhood. 20:30, the adults' festival «Escala en Hi-Fi». 23:00, an evening with the band Escuela de Calor and their Spanish pop-rock classics from the 1980s and 90s. 00:30, DJ Simón.
Saturday 29. 11:00, a football match for all ages and, at 12:00, the traditional singles versus married men match; both at the Los Pedregales football ground in El Palmar. 20:00, grand paella. 20:30, the festivities close with a large open-air dance by Grupo LD and Orquesta Guaracha, with DJ Chris during the break, the presentation of the tournament trophies and the handover of the flag to the incoming committee.
Sunday 30. The traditional potato-sowing day and typical lunch, followed by a dance with the duo Generación Zero.
