Fiestas de El Amparo 2026 (Icod de los Vinos)verified

The El Amparo neighbourhood of Icod de los Vinos celebrates its fiestas from 31 July to 10 August 2026, as part of the municipal Barrios en Fiestas programme. Eleven days of religious ceremonies, tradition and street parties.

The most distinctive moment: the encuentro del poleo on Sunday 2 August at 06:30 in the morning, when neighbours climb into the hills to gather poleo, the aromatic plant used to decorate and scent the neighbourhood. At 10:00 they return to the square with the offering to the Virgin.

Other highlights: on 31 July at 20:30, the opening address and tribute to the Orquesta El Poleo, followed by the uncorking of wine. On 1 August, the 48th Rally Cultural El Amparo (start 14:00, finish 18:30), the poleo camp at 21:00 and performances by Los Volcánicos and Trastempo at 22:00. On 4 August at 10:00, the search for the baskets of fruit and bread rolls. On 5 August, the main day, with mass and procession at 11:00 and 20:30. On 6 August at 21:00, the great Doña Chana party with grupo Saoco: guests come dressed in white. On 9 August at 17:00, the Gran Corrida de Toros y Baile de Libreas, and at 18:30 the comedy festival. On 10 August the fiestas close with the gran pelana and dancing with Generación Zero.

From 3 to 5 August each morning opens at 06:00 with the diana floreada.

Before the main day: the novenas. On each of the nine preceding days, in the late afternoon, the rosary is prayed and mass is celebrated in honour of Our Lady of El Amparo and Saint Dominic de Guzmán. Afterwards, outside the church, as many wood-filled containers are lit as there are days left until the main feast: each evening one fewer burns, so the whole neighbourhood can see the countdown.

While they burn, drums and accordions strike up the tajaraste on the Media Naranja, danced by young and old alike. The evening closes with the bells ringing from the church belfry, and the fiesta committee offers everyone a bite to eat.
