"El Último Presidente" by Teatro La Repúblicaverified

Culture · 9 €

El último presidente goes inside the mind of Juan Negrín López, the last head of government of the Second Spanish Republic, in the final days of a defeat that was not only military but ethical and moral. Far from a conventional biography, Teatro La República uses live music to build an inner journey between historical responsibility, the loneliness of power and exile.

El último presidente goes inside the mind of Juan Negrín López, last head of government of the Second Spanish Republic, in the final days of a defeat that was not only military but ethical and moral. On a fragmented, shifting stage, time folds and breaks: public speeches, memories, silences and private thoughts share the same plane, and scientific reason collides with the barbarity of war. Negrín appears not as a myth but as a human being holding on while everything collapses.

Live music and stage action turn history into a sensory experience and a reflection on memory, democracy and the price of commitment. The cast is Toni Báez, María Filomena and Alberto Aliaga, with music by Yul Ballesteros; the text is by Miguel Ángel Martínez, adapted and directed by Nacho Cabrera. Recommended for ages 14 and over; running time 90 minutes. Tickets from €9. The performance takes place at Teatro El Sauzal on Saturday 10 October 2026, at 20:00.
