On 16 July 1990 Liliana Rivera Garza was murdered by her former partner in Mexico City. For decades her story remained one among those of thousands of women who were victims of male violence, until her sister, the writer Cristina Rivera Garza, went through the files, diaries and personal papers Liliana had left behind. That work of rebuilding memory became El invencible verano de Liliana, published in 2021, a book that goes beyond a family story to reflect on gender violence, justice and the need to give a voice back to those who were silenced.
The stage adaptation, promoted by the Festival de Otoño, features Mexican actress Cecilia Suárez, with dramaturgy by Amaranta Osorio and direction by Juan Carlos Fischer. It is part of the Otoño Cultural CajaCanarias 2026 at the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with tickets on sale. The play is also performed on 23 October at the same time.
