El barbero de Picasso, de Borja Ortiz de Gondraverified
The second performance at the Teatro Cuyás of Borja Ortiz de Gondra's play about the friendship between Pablo Picasso and his barber, Eugenio Arias, in 1950s Vallauris. Chiqui Carabante directs, with Antonio Molero, Pepe Viyuela, Mar Calvo and José Ramón Iglesias on stage, in a production by Teatro Español and Amor al Teatro. It runs an hour and a half and begins at 19:30.
Picasso and Eugenio Arias met in Vallauris, in the south of France, and far more than razor and comb held them together: both were Spanish Republican exiles, both missed the country they had left behind, and both shared a love of bullfighting and a political commitment. Borja Ortiz de Gondra turns that friendship into a comedy in which the painter decides to build a goat out of scrap, and the idea sets off a chain of increasingly absurd misunderstandings.
Chiqui Carabante directs, with Antonio Molero, Pepe Viyuela, Mar Calvo and José Ramón Iglesias in the cast, in a production by Teatro Español together with Amor al Teatro. The play lasts an hour and a half, and this is the second of the two nights booked at the Teatro Cuyás, which stands on Calle Viera y Clavijo in the centre of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a short walk from the Triana district.
