Santa Bárbara's day: mass, procession and fireworksverified

Festivals & Pilgrimages

The main day of the Santa Bárbara fiestas: it opens with gunpowder at dawn, continues with mass and procession at midday, and closes with Los Sabandeños and fireworks.

Sunday the 30th is the big day. The neighbourhood wakes at 06:30 to gunpowder and bells, and at 07:00 the diana floreada sets out, a band walking the streets playing to rouse the residents. At 11:00 officials are received and at 12:00 comes the mass, followed by the procession.

In the afternoon, at 17:30, there is a variety show with Aarón Gómez, a Tenerife comedian well known across the islands, and Los Sabandeños, the longest-running Canarian folk ensemble, founded in La Laguna in 1966. At 21:00 there is a celebration of the word, a second procession and the fireworks display.

If you can only come one day, this is the one that holds everything together: the religious, the musical and the festive, from dawn to night.
