Day of Nuestra Señora del Pinoverified
Gran Canaria's biggest day: the solemn mass and the procession of the Virgin of El Pino through the streets of Teror, with Seguridad Social in concert at night.
8 September is the day of Gran Canaria's patron saint, and Teror is her town. The day starts with masses from early morning in the Basílica del Pino, continues at 11:00 with the official reception of authorities in Calle Real de la Plaza and at 12:00 with the solemn mass.
At 13:00 the procession of the image sets out through the streets of the old town. It is the central moment of the day and the one that draws the biggest crowd.
At night, at 21:00, Seguridad Social play in the Plaza de Sintes. And from 8 to 16 September the solemn novena continues, for anyone who would rather see the basilica with fewer people around.
Teror is worth a visit any day of the year for its Calle Real with its pine-wood balconies, but it is worth knowing that on the 8th the town runs in exceptional mode.
