Talks on seabirds, cetaceans and sea turtles at the Casa La Viuda, Buenavista del Norteverified
A morning of talks at the II Jornadas divulgativas of the Observatorio de las Migraciones del Faro de Buenavista, at the Casa de la Cultura (Casa La Viuda): light pollution and seabirds, protecting the Cory's shearwater, sea turtles in Teno-Rasca, sperm whales in the Canaries and the monitoring of seabird migration. Saturday morning brings together specialists in marine wildlife. At 10:00 the ornithologist and biologist Beneharo Rodríguez (GOHNIC) speaks on the effect of light pollution on seabirds; at 10:45 Virginia Díaz presents El Primer Viaje, an initiative to protect the Cory's shearwater; and at 11:15 the marine biologist Claudia Hurtado (ULL) covers the presence, monitoring and conservation of sea turtles in Teno-Rasca. After the coffee break at 11:45, the marine biologist Daniel Miranda presents at 12:15 an abundance estimate of sperm whales in the Canaries; at 12:45 the ornithologist Juan José Ramos (Birding Canarias) shows the monitoring of the spring seabird migration from the coast of Antigua, Fuerteventura, in 2026; and at 13:15 Abraham Hernández closes with the results of the 2025 autumn monitoring from the Observatorio itself.
The talks are part of the II Jornadas divulgativas of the Observatorio de las Migraciones del Faro de Buenavista and take place at the Casa de la Cultura (Casa La Viuda), on Calle el Puerto in Buenavista del Norte. They begin on Saturday 10 October 2026 at 9:30 with a welcome and presentation; in the afternoon, at 16:30, a seabird-watching meet-up follows at the Faro de Buenavista. Admission is free and open, with no registration required.
