Poetry battle at the La Bombilla fiestasverified
Three teams face off improvising in verse on the square in La Bombilla: traditional versadores, polka and rap, on the same stage under the same rules.
Improvised verse is alive in the Canaries, and in La Bombilla they test it in an unusual way: the poetry battle pits a Team Versadores against a Team Polka and a Team Rap. That is, Canarian oral tradition and rap competing in the same format, which is fundamentally the same game four centuries apart.
The evening starts at 21:30 with the neighbourhood show "Nos vemos en el Varadero", followed by the improvised lyric contest.
Earlier in the day there is a dive run by Blue Magma Diving at 11:00, with limited places, and at 17:30 the "Bombillazo en marcha" gymkhana, organised by the Varadero La Bombilla residents' association.
