La Guancha's Bajada de las Hayas: beech branches are carried down from the mountain to the village, a tradition you will not see anywhere else.
The Bajada de las Hayas is one of northern Tenerife's most distinctive traditions: villagers climb into the hills, cut beech branches and carry them down in procession to the centre of La Guancha, where the village is decorated with them.
The custom blends farming ritual with celebration: once the branches arrive there are parranda bands, food and dancing.
