Arreglos de Autor XIII: Jazz & World Music - Gran Canaria Big Bandverified
The Gran Canaria Big Band returns to the Teatro Guiniguada with a new instalment of Arreglos de Autor, the cycle that reaches this stage every year. Under the title Jazz & World Music, the band explores the meeting point between the language of jazz and the music of the world through original arrangements written for the occasion. A 75 minute show without an interval, suitable for all audiences.
The programme is built as a journey in which musical roots talk to improvisation, harmonic richness and the expressive power of a big band, offering fresh readings of works by contemporary Canarian composers. The arrangements are previously unpublished and draw on Canarian folk music, Latin music, flamenco and Atlantic music, among other cultural inheritances.
True to the spirit of the cycle, the project is committed to creating new repertoire and to working with composers, arrangers and performers. Sebastián Gil conducts. Founded in 1997, the Gran Canaria Big Band has developed more than 75 musical projects, from tours to school concerts and recordings, and has shared the stage with artists such as Paquito D'Rivera, Kurt Elling and New York Voices.
