Afanador - Ballet Nacional de Españaverified
The second of two performances by the Ballet Nacional de España at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Afanador is the piece Marcos Morau built out of Ruven Afanador's flamenco photography, danced by thirty-nine performers in the Sala Sinfónica and running one hour and forty minutes. It collected five Max Awards in 2025. The Sunday performance starts at 18:00 and tickets cost 15 €.
Marcos Morau directs this Ballet Nacional de España production and shares the choreography with La Veronal, working alongside Lorena Nogal, Shay Partush, Jon López and Miguel Ángel Corbacho. The starting point is the photography of Ruven Afanador, in particular his books Ángel gitano and Mil besos, a flamenco seen, as Morau puts it, through a distorting lens made of dream, desire and memory. Juan Cristóbal Saavedra wrote the score with Enrique Bermúdez and Jonathan Bermúdez, Max Glaenzel designed the set, Silvia Delagneau the costumes and Bernat Jansà the lighting.
Thirty-nine dancers fill the Sala Sinfónica for one hour and forty minutes. The production has gathered nine awards between 2024 and 2025, among them five Max Awards in 2025 for best dance production, direction, lighting, costume and music. This is the second of the weekend's two performances and it begins at 18:00. The Auditorio de Tenerife stands on Avenida de la Constitución, right by the sea in Santa Cruz. The piece is recommended from the age of twelve and admission is allowed from five. Tickets cost 15 €.
