74th Romería-Ofrenda to Nuestra Señora del Pinoverified
The largest romería on Gran Canaria: all 21 municipalities of the island come up to Teror with their ox-carts, their costumes and their produce, to offer them to the Virgin of El Pino.
The romería-ofrenda of El Pino is the act that best explains what this fiesta means to Gran Canaria. Each of the island's 21 municipalities comes up to Teror with its decorated ox-cart, its folk groups and its produce, and offers them in front of the basilica. Delegations from the eight islands join them.
The idea dates from 1952 and is due to Néstor Álamo; this is the 74th edition. The order of participation has been drawn by lot for twenty years now, with two fixed exceptions: La Aldea de San Nicolás and Mogán always go first because of the distance they have to travel.
It starts at 16:00 and is broadcast live. In the evening there is the eve verbena from 20:00 in the Plaza de Sintes, and fireworks at midnight.
It is the busiest day of the year in Teror and the town is small: expect parking difficulties and a walk for the last stretch.
