37th Lanzarote Island Craft Fairverified
The 37th Lanzarote Island Craft Fair, beside the Mancha Blanca sanctuary: more than 140 participants, Uruguay as guest country and vegetable fibre hat making as this edition's single theme.
Lanzarote's most important craft event, on the Mancha Blanca fairground beside the sanctuary and running alongside the Los Dolores fiestas. It is one of the reasons many islanders go up during these days, and it is not a souvenir market: this is where you watch craftspeople working at trades that are hard to find gathered in one place outside these dates.
This 37th edition brings together more than 140 participants, among them craftspeople, associations and institutions, with Uruguay as guest country. Each year the fair picks a single theme: where the previous edition was devoted to traditional footwear, the soletas, this one turns to hats and the vegetable fibre hat making of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Opening hours: it opens on Thursday 10 September at 17:30, and from the 11th it stays open from 10:30 to 21:30, through to Tuesday the 15th.
Bear in mind that the Saturday of the romería and the 15th, an island public holiday, are the busiest: if you want to talk to the makers without a crowd, a weekday is better.
The craft workshops require registration in advance: it opens on 7 September at 9:00, through the Cabildo's Artesanía de Lanzarote website (artesaniadelanzarote.com). Check the address carefully, because a version without the «de» is also circulating and it does not load.
