37ª Feria Insular de Artesanía de La Palma (Villa y Puerto de Tazacorte)verified
La Palma's main craft fair: five days of traditional trades demonstrated live, children's workshops, local food and drink, and a folk performance every day.
The 37th Island Craft Fair takes place in the port compound of Puerto de Tazacorte from 12 to 16 August. On the 12th it opens from 17:00 to 21:00; from the 13th to the 16th the hours are 11:00 to 21:00.
More than sixty traditional trades take part with live demonstrations: pottery, straw, wicker and palm basketry, embroidery and openwork, lace, traditional low-warp weaving, woodcarving, blacksmithing and forging, soap making, jewellery, leatherwork, doll making, hat making, glasswork, shoemaking, percussion instruments, traditional dress and furniture restoration, among others.
Each day is dedicated to different municipalities of the island, with tastings of local produce and a musical performance. Wednesday 12: Villa y Puerto de Tazacorte with the Caballos Fufos, Barqueras and the town band, plus Villa de Garafía. Thursday 13: Puntallana, Fuencaliente and Los Llanos de Aridane. Friday 14: San Andrés y Sauces, Villa de Mazo with the Seis y Media parranda, and Tijarafe. Saturday 15: Puntagorda, Breña Alta and Breña Baja. Sunday 16: El Paso, Santa Cruz de La Palma and Barlovento.
Workshops for children aged 7 to 13 run throughout the fair (macramé, palm basketry, leatherwork, clay, dressmaking, doll making, wool felt, cane whistles, materials recycling and Canarian folk dance), in groups of 12 to 15.
The food area brings together island producers: artisan cheeses, DOP La Palma wines, craft beer, honey, sweets, gluten-free and lactose-free baking, artisan ice cream and sugar cane.
A free shuttle bus runs continuously from the roundabout at the old health centre to the fairground. Organised by the Cabildo of La Palma with Tazacorte town council, Sodepal and Puertos Canarios.
