34th Gran Canaria Folk Festivalverified
A single night on which all eight islands are heard one after another, each with its own group, on the square in Teror on the eve of the Pino romería.
It is hard to find another occasion in the year when you can hear the folk music of all eight islands in a single night on the same stage. The 34th edition brings Sabinosa from El Hierro, Dunas de Corralejo from Fuerteventura, Chemida from Gran Canaria, Coros y Danzas from La Gomera, Alfaguara from La Palma, Guadarfía from Lanzarote, the Escuela de Folclore de Adeje from Tenerife and Parranda Los Toledo from La Graciosa.
The differences between islands are real and audible from one act to the next: instruments, tempo, way of singing. La Graciosa, with barely seven hundred inhabitants, has its own group on the bill.
It starts at 20:30 in the Plaza de Sintes. It falls on the eve of the romería-ofrenda, so anyone wanting to see both needs to stay overnight nearby: the following day Teror fills up completely.
