The Drago Milenario of Icod de los Vinos is an emblematic tree and one of the most important natural symbols of Tenerife, and even of all the Canary Islands. It is a specimen of dragon tree (Dracaena draco), an endemic species of Macaronesia, estimated to be between 600 and 800 years old, although some legends attribute it to be even more than a thousand years old.
This majestic tree is located in the Parque del Drago, in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Its imposing size, with a height of about 18 meters and a trunk perimeter of approximately 20 meters at its base, makes it an impressive sight.
The Drago Milenario is known for its red sap, called "dragon's blood", which has been used since ancient times for medicinal purposes and for dyeing.
