Icod de los Vinos Carnival 2026: Official Dates and the theme «Around the World in 80 Days»
It's official! The city's joint Carnival commission has made a decision: in 2026, Jules Verne's classic will come to life in the streets of Icod de los Vinos. Leaving last year's «enchanted garden» behind, this year we embark on a much grander adventure: heading for the wide world!
Dates and Theme: What You Need to Know
The City Council and the carnival commission have announced the details of the 2026 celebrations. Mark the dates on your calendar!
-
📅 Fechas: From February 19 to 28, 2026.
-
🎭 Tema: Around the World in 80 Days.
This year's concept is a direct continuation of the previous one. While in 2025 we wandered through a magical garden, in 2026 we take off from that same garden to discover the most fascinating places on the planet. The theme pays homage to the age of discovery, the romance of hot air balloons, and the world of 19th-century adventure novels.
Costume Inspiration: Steampunk and World Travelers
This theme is a goldmine for costume design! If you're planning to come to Icod de los Vinos for the carnival, here are some ideas to make a splash:
-
Phileas Fogg and Passepartout: The classic Victorian gentleman and his loyal assistant.
-
Estilo Steampunk: The atmosphere of the poster strongly evokes the aesthetic of gears, copper goggles, and steam engines.
-
National Costumes: Since we are going to «travel around the world,» traditional or fantasy attire from any continent is a perfect choice, from India to the Wild West.
-
Classic Aviation: Hot air balloon pilots, airship captains, and sky explorers.
Curiosities about Icod de los Vinos and Carnival
The north of Tenerife is famous for its traditional, family-friendly, and lively carnivals. Icod de los Vinos is a special setting:
-
In the shadow of the Millennial Dragon: The symbol of the city is the Millennial Dragon. Carnival parades often wind through the historic center, providing a unique backdrop to the colorful hustle and bustle.
-
Why is it worth visiting this carnival?
While the Carnival of Santa Cruz is famous for its gigantic dimensions and its title as the second largest in the world, Icod de los Vinos offers a more intimate but extremely detailed experience. Here you can experience the Canary lifestyle up close, the «chicharrera» hospitality, and the dates at the end of February are perfect for an escape from the continental winter.
